Swim lessons with Safe Aquatics

What to expect

Our methods work

Lessons adapted to YOUR student

Too many swim schools try a “one size fits all” approach. At Safe Aquatics, we use our years of teaching experience to identify exactly what a student needs to succeed. We will adapt the drills and focus repetition where each individual student needs it- instead of treating class like an assembly line. If your child is excelling, we will challenge them more! As highly experienced swim teachers, we can quickly identify what is needed to provide excellent lessons.

Teachers who care

We have spent most of our lives involved with aquatics, and spent our working years helping people of all ages find a love of swimming. You may have encountered teachers who lack knowledge or a passion for teaching swimming… to them it’s just a job. The difference with Safe Aquatics is that we are highly experienced and have a genuine love for what we do. We have chosen to dedicate our efforts towards our love for teaching swimming, and it shows in our work!

Safety first

Our main focus is always making sure students are safe in the water. We give babies – even just 4 months old – a head start in learning to move in the water. Going to a back float after a fall, getting your face and airways out of water, reaching for the wall… these are all skills that can learned by even your littlest ones. We work toward independence in the water as students get older, and teach all these early skills and habits in a way that progresses perfectly into advanced stroke work later on.

Proper foundation

As competitive swimmers and coaches, we’ve spent years studying and understanding swimming technique. We’ve found the best ways to teach our students how to learn good body position in the water. Poor technique is not only hard to unlearn, but can lead to injury as swimmers get older. That’s why we set a foundation, from the very beginning, for our students to develop excellent technique.

MEET THE TEACHERS

Drew and Amanda Connery have over 25 years combined experience teaching swim lessons. They’ve seen many different styles and theories of teaching swimming over the years, and have drawn on this knowledge to create an adaptable, effective method. Each summer, they teach swim lessons for over a hundred families in Atwater, Merced, Madera and the Fresno area. They live in Madera with their two boys, Knox and Van.

MISS AMANDA
MISS AMANDA
Amanda started teaching her swim lesson method in 2014, before starting Safe Aquatics in 2022. She comes from an aquatic-focused family and grew up under the watchful eye of a decorated high school aquatics coach! At 15, she became a lifeguard and began teaching swim lessons. After swimming and playing water polo in high school, she dove deeper into teaching. She’s worked with kids at gyms and pools for 15 years, and achieved the position of Head Instructor at a Los Angeles swim school, where she helped train other instructors and shape the curriculum that has been used to teach thousands of kids to swim. After leaving LA, she continued her career as a private swim teacher and received training to work with children and adults on the spectrum. Amanda is always at home in the water… whether she’s teaching babies to become water safe, helping fearful students overcome past traumatic experiences, helping special needs individuals discover joy in the water, or setting a foundation for future water polo players!
COACH DREW
COACH DREW
Coach Drew started swimming competitively at 7 years old, and continued swimming through high school and college. During his swim career, Drew became proficient in every stroke as an individual medley (I.M.) swimmer, and qualified as All-American. His first job, at age 15, was lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons. Later in life, he delved back into teaching swimming as an instructor at a swim school in the LA area and worked as the 10 and under swim coach for Royal Swim Team. Drew was so impressed with Miss Amanda’s work as head instructor that he later joined her at Safe Aquatics, where he specializes in competitive preparation and technique-focused instruction. Drew has competed in the US Masters program at open water events. This has given him a new skill set to help adults develop their swimming for triathlons, open water events, and military service.
